Playing with the backdrop and kids!

Today was my first day taking pictures of kids in a studio setting with lights and a backdrop and I think I did really well!  I kept the lighting simple and bounced a spotlight off of an umbrella and the had a reflector on the opposite side with both light sources angled toward the center.  It was a real easy set up.
Here are some samples.

  2. Do you mind a little feedback? Preface = I don't know anything about using a backdrop. Now, with that said, I'm not sure I love the blurry background with the backdrop. For some reason it looks a little out of place for me. It's weird that I think that since I barely move my aperture beyond 1.8, but that's what I'm feelin' here. But way to try something new! I definiltely admire your courage!

  3. Yes, I totally agree. I don't think I enjoy studio lighting and shots, but I still want to experiment with it. For kids in front of backdrops I think it's better to stop down the aperature so that the background isn't fuzzy because if they move your chances of them still being crisp are greater. And the backdrop shouldn't be distracting since it is a backdrop. :)
